Can the life of a famous creative person be separated from their work?

Consider the following:

• Can you really know the work of Louis van Beethoven without understanding that he struggled with deafness throughout his adult life?
• Can you properly know the paintings of Vincent van Gogh without comprehending his mental health issues?
• Can you truly know Richard Wagner's music without knowing he was a gross antisemite, a con man, and a womaniser?
• Can you accurately study the work of Martin Heidegger whilst ignoring his support for the Nazi party?

So, consequently, can you plainly understand the writing of Joanne K Rowling without knowing she is a horrifying transphobe? That is, without sticking your head in a bucket and going, 'blah, blah, blah... don't want to hear!'?

Yes, you can like the work without liking the author. But you can't simply ignore what kind of person they are. To do otherwise is to be at least disingenuous and, at worst, hypocritical.
